One of the greatest places that I’ve ever been to. The pictures don’t do it justice.

Cool Haus: Austin, TX

A couple of weeks ago, I saw Cool Haus on Eat St. It featured the LA location on the show and I was really excited that someone came up with the idea to reinvent the outdated icecream truck. When I was in Austin, I wanted something sweet so I went on Yelp to search for bakeries. For some reason, Cool Haus came up and I nearly lost it. I had to try it.

The location is kinda random. It looks almost as though three food trucks were deserted in a parking lot. There weren’t any customers there but I think that was because 1. the other to food trucks were only open for dinner and it was lunch time and 2. texas is hot as butt so nobody wants to be outside in direct sunlight. Anyways, I braved the hellish temperatures to get myself and icecream sandwich.

I got the chocolate chip cookie with the browned butter, candied bacon ice cream. Yes, candied bacon. Apparently the people of Epic Mealtime aren’t the only ones who enjoy candied bacon. It was pretty good. The cookie and the ice cream were tasty. The ice cream had a molasses-y flavor and the bacon was a nice contrast of texture to the creamy custard. The cookie wasn’t the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever had, but it was good. My favorite part of the sandwich was the edible wrapper. It’s a genius idea because instead of having to push down the wrapper to keep on eating the product, you can just chomp away. It didn’t taste like anything, but it was just so innovative.

Cool Haus was a really cute ice cream truck. I would definitely go there again. I wouldn’t say that they have the best ice cream or the best cookies, but I will say that their product is tasty. It’s a great product to help beat the summer heat.
